Clothes Horses

Having twins in general can prove challenging some days. Make that girl twins and the drama is twofold. But perhaps the most difficult part of having two girls in the house the exact same age is the clothes!

When they're tiny, it's super fun to dress them alike -- right down to the very girlie (matching) hair bow. But, as they grow and develop personalities, all the sudden there are two (different) favorite colors, two (different) style preferences, and two very different opinions.

People often comment how many of the photos I take of the girls doing day to day activities at home -- baking cookies, doing a puppet show, playing with the dog -- more often than not showcase the girls wearing nothing but their panties. Well, folks. It's just easier. Because at four, they don't necessarily want to dress alike. And they definitely don't want different outfits! Try buying the exact same outfit in two different colors -- even picking each one's favorite color, and there's still drama.

Same outfit day:
Girl: "But I don't want to look like her! I want to wear this. But my own this! Not hers. Not like her!"
Mom: "Well then, go pick out something you want to wear"
Girl: "But she's already wearing what I want to wear!"

Same outfit, different colors day:
Girl: "Why does hers have pink buttons when mine has blue buttons?!"
Mom: "Because her outfit is pink, honey"
Girl: "Well I wanted pink buttons! I never get pink buttons!"
Mom: "Your outfit is your favorite color BLUE. So you have your favorite color BLUE buttons! That is so special! Your very own BLUE outfit!"
Girl: "Well, I want the pink one. Because I want the pink buttons!"
Mom: "Okay, well then sis will have to agree to wear your blue outfit then."
Girl: "But the blue one is my special outfit. It's BLUE. My favorite color! I don't want her to wear it! Can I just have her pink buttons? But she can't have my blue buttons ..."

Try buying two similar outfits with subtle differences ...
Mom: "Don't you love your new outfits?"
Girl: "My sleeves don't have stuffs (aka: designs) on them. Hers has stuffs.
Dad: "Well, yours has more stuffs on the front instead of one big design like hers. They're just a little different. But both shirts have plenty of "stuffs" on them"
Girl: (looking exasperated)"Well, mine doesn't have stuffs on the sleeves and I wanted stuffs on the sleeves and she always gets the good stuffs. On her sleeves."
Mom & Dad: (deep breaths) "Next time you can wear the one with stuffs on the sleeves and she can wear yours. Problem solved."
Girl: (immediately after this sentence comes out of mommy and daddy's mouths) "Is it my turn yet?"

It should be noted that all of these scenarios are not the same girl complaining. It depends on the day. Clothes and girls. It's just hard. And, don't get me started on hair styles and hair bows.

Or shoes.
